This powerful engine was part of the Cummins B Series that was known for displacing one liter per cylinder, or nearly so. The smaller 4-cylinder was a 3.9L engine. The 360 cubic inch, 5.9L Cummins Turbo was a straight-six engine. The technical name for the engine was the ISB 5.9 – the 5.9L Interact System B engine. A decade later, an improved model of the engine with 600 output was named one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines for 2004.

This engine featured multi-valve pushrod design with a 102.1mm (4.02”) cylinder bore and 119.9mm (4.72”) stroke. The added turbocharger produced an impressive compression ratio of 17.2:1 in later versions of the Cummins 5.9L engine.

In addition to use in the Dodge D350 truck, this Cummins B Series diesel was used in Dodge Ram trucks, buses, military vehicles, construction equipment and marine applications.

Standard Features on the Dodge D350 Truck

The D350 truck was equipped with a front bench and no rear bench. It sported an AM/FM radio but no tape player. The two-door exterior boasted chrome bumpers. ABS brakes were standard on this truck, and drivers enjoyed power steering but not power doors, seats or windows.

Popular Options for the Dodge D350 Truck

While different Dodge 350 engine sizes were not available, truck buyers had a long list of other options. These options allowed consumers to equip the truck to meet their needs and desire for comfort and performance.

Paint packages included center-band two-tone paint and lower-break two-tone paint. Dual rear wheels were available for those used to hauling heavy loads. Mirror size options ranged from dual 5”x7” mirrors to large 7”x10” mirrors with bright coatings.

Air conditioning was available on the Dodge D350 pickup along with intermittent wipers and an AM/FM radio with cassette player. Consumers could order the truck without a radio too.

The GVWR of this beefy truck was 10,100lbs. The D350 wasn’t produced after 1993. Instead, Dodge gave an overhaul to its popular Dodge Ram trucks which continue to be a best-seller for the brand.
