The Chevy Colorado was introduced to the market in the year 2004, and it is a medium sized pick-up truck. The Colorado is jointly designed by GM North America, Brazil, and Isuzu. The first generation Chevy Colorado is powered by a 2.8 liter LK514 engine. The LK514 is also found in the Chevrolet S 10 and the GMC Sonoma pick-up trucks. The Colorado is built on the GMT 355 platform, developed by GM. The 2005 GM Hummer is built on the previous GMT 345 platform but is powered by the same LK514.

In 2005, Chevrolet introduced the Colorado Cab and both the vehicles had upgraded engines at their helm. The Colorado pick-up was powered by a 2.9 liter LLV14 engine, displacing 185 HP, and the Colorado Cab was powered by a 3.5 liter L52 engine, displacing 220 HP. The L52 motor is used to power the GMC Canyon as well, and both these vehicles share their basic components. These L52 model engines can now be found, used, for sale and in great condition.   As the vehicles share basic components, the drive train components, like the gearbox the suspension, and the axle measurements, are the same on both vehicles. Using one platform to develop multiple cars saves the company a lot of money; therefore, the most commercially successful platforms are more likely to be used on a number of vehicles. This uniformity of make ensures used engines for sale are available in many workshops which specialize in repairing cars or at online auto stores.

The next major engine upgrade was made in the year 2011. This time, Chevrolet got the new 5.3 liter LH8 V8 motor installed in the Colorado, which displaced 300 HP and 320 foot pounds of torque, and the car came into the forefront for its performance. In fact, the Colorado could be compared directly with the Ford Raptor and the Dodge Ram which is powered by a 5.0 liter advanced turbo charged V8. All of these vehicles use similar drive train features like the AWD function and a 6 speed manual transmission with the option of a 6 speed automatic.
